SATA Represented in 2011 National Athletic Therapy Month Awards

In June 2011, several SATA members were involved in events increasing the exposure of Athletic Therapy across Saskatchewan and Canada. The theme for this year's promotion was "Baby Your Brain - Understand the Signs and Risks of Head Injuries."

Lisa Swallow, owner of Stapleford Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Clinic in Regina, was recognized as having the Best Print Award for her campaign promoting the awareness of concussions in sport. The SATA as an association was recognized as having the Best Television Ad for its presentation of the annual Sandy Archer - Saskatchewan Athletic Therapists Association Athletic Therapy Award during a Saskatchewan Roughriders game in June. A complete list of winners can be found here.

Swallow Speaks on Concussions

On Thursday, December 15th, SATA member Lisa Swallow was an invited guest on The SportsCage, a local Regina Sports Talk Radio show, to discuss the recent increase in attention surrounding sport concussions. If you would like to listen to Lisa's talk, it can be heard here.

SATA Member Publishes Ground-Breaking Concussion Research

The SATA would like congratulate Trevor Len on the recent publication of an article in the journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise. The article, titled "Cerebrovascular Reactivity Impairment Following Sport-Induced Concussion", was featured in the December issue and was highlighted by the Editor-in-Chief in his commentary.

Trevor recently completed his Masters of Science in Kinesiology & Health Studies from the University of Regina which focused on the pathophysiological effects of concussions on the brain.

Greg Mayer a Mainstay for Regina Pats

SATA member Greg Mayer was recently featured in an article in the Regina Leader-Post. The article can be found here.

Greg will complete his1000th game in Calgary on October 12th, 2011. Congratulations to Greg on his acheivement!

Gutfriend hits milestone mark

On September 11th, 2011, long-time Athletic Therapist for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Ivan Gutfriend, reached a monumental milsetone when he completed his 700th game as head therapist. Serving for 34 seasons as the club's Athletic Therapist, Ivan is the longest serving member of the Rouhriders.
